Photography

Photography is part of the Office of Marketing and Communications work in support of our strategic University-wide initiatives and enrollment efforts, with an emphasis on storytelling around Moravian's mission, brand identity, and reputation.

Our University staff photographer captures images that help to tell the story of Moravian from the perspective of students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Our photo work is focused on branded storytelling and marketing initiatives, not documentary photography of events.

Large, public-facing University events like Heritage Day, homecoming, commencement, Vespers, move-in day, accepted student days, open houses and new student orientation will be covered by Marketing and Communications and/or assigned a professional photographer. These events require professional, high resolution images for recruiting and marketing materials, including print collateral, print and digital advertising and the website.

Throughout the academic year Marketing and Communications will schedule photo shoots that require extensive collaboration among departments; including the scheduling of on-campus locations, identifying and scheduling participants in the photo shoot (students/faculty/staff) and providing input on art direction of the shoot.

Find a Photo

The Marketing and Communications office maintains an extensive database of high-quality, on brand photos from orientation weekend to graduation, and everything in between. If you can’t find what you’re looking for in our gallery, contact news@moravian.edu for additional resources.

Documenting events

If your organization would like to document an event like on-campus receptions, small graduation ceremonies, or job/career fairs a student photographer can be assigned, pending availability. Student photographers are paid an hourly rate. In most cases, these pictures may be used for a Flickr album and social media for individual departments, but not for other University-wide marketing materials like advertising, brochures, direct mail, or the website.

If you'd like to request a student photographer, email news@moravian.edu.  You will receive a follow-up email from our office within 5 business days letting you know if a student photographer is available.

If there are no student photographers available we can recommend outside freelance photographer options upon request (budget required).

Camera equipment is also available for loan to campus organizations from the Marketing and Communications office.  Send an email to news@moravian.edu to request the equipment and get a quick tutorial on how to use the camera.

All photographs supplied may be used for marketing, website and public relations purposes at the discretion of the Office of Marketing & Communications.

Group Photos

Smartphones can be utilized for taking most group photos.  When taking a group photo on a smartphone, consider where the video will live. If it is for social media, take the photo vertically. If it is for a webpage, take the photo horizontally. If you aren't sure, take it both ways. Make sure you can see the face of everyone in the group and consider the lighting when determining a location.

Faculty & Staff Headshots 2024-2025

We are able to provide free headshots for all faculty and staff on a monthly walk-in basis. The session’s date and time will be during common hour on the first Tuesday of every month, 12-1:10 PM located on the 3rd floor of Sally Breidegam Miksiewicz Center for Health Sciences. Participants can expect at least two images to be made available within one week of the session.

Note:  If you have had a headshot taken in the last year, we ask that you allow new members of the community to come and get their pictures taken at these sessions.
