Test Optional Policy

Moravian has taken a holistic approach to application evaluation since its founding, nearly 280 years ago. And in that spirit, we’ve taken things a step further by establishing our Test Optional Policy for first-year applicants.

This policy makes the submission of SAT and ACT standardized test scores optional for students applying for undergraduate admission. Scores will still be accepted and considered if the applicant desires. However, if the applicant feels their test scores are not an accurate representation of their academic abilities, they can choose to not to have their scores considered for admission.

This change comes in response to an evolving academic climate where standardized test scores are no longer considered to be the best indicator of future academic success. Instead, our admissions counselors will focus on high school transcripts, writing samples, recommendations, and interviews—creating a well-rounded picture of the applicant. Our counselors are confident that the high school record is key to identifying a student’s academic preparedness and potential for success at Moravian.

Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ joins more than 1,000 accredited four-year colleges and universities in the United States that are now test-optional.

How Test Optional Works

SAT/ACT scores are an optional credential and as an applicant, you can decide if you want to submit your scores to Moravian. If you feel your SAT or ACT scores are an accurate reflection of your academic abilities, you are welcome to submit them for consideration. There is no preference for SAT or ACT scores.

Moravian does not require any additional application materials in place of your standardized test scores. However, if you feel a writing sample or an interview would more accurately convey your academic abilities and achievements, we highly encourage them both!

Admission and Aid

If you choose not to submit test scores, it will not hurt your application. Test scores are not required in order to be considered for most scholarships and financial aid.

We look at every first-year student’s application and consider that student for a scholarship, based on the merits of the entire application. If you submit your SAT or ACT scores, we will review those as part of that comprehensive review. If you decide not to submit these scores, we will still look at all of your application materials in consideration of a scholarship.

Eligibility

You should indicate your test-score preference within the Moravian or Common Applications. There are a few applicant types for whom standardized test scores are still a requirement:

  • International Students

Submitting Scores Post-Acceptance

Students who are admitted without their test scores are not required to submit their scores once enrolled. However, we strongly encourage enrolled students to share their scores so advisors can help guide academic choices and course placements. Submitting your scores post-enrollment will not have a negative effect on admission or previously-awarded scholarships.
