Friday January 13, 9am-NOON Drop in Writing Day - Jump Start. Join other faculty as they gather to spend dedicated morning time to writing projects and classroom preparation. Location: Afterwords Cafe, Reeves Library.
Friday January 13, 11am-NOON Classroom Technology Test Run. Craig Underwood, our classroom technology guru, will be available in the lower level of the library at the new model podium/classroom to assist as you experiment with Moravian's standard classroom technology. Monday, August 1, 11:00A Alignment and Course Mapping. Join Sarah Rentz and Nicole Tabor to discuss how to align your course objectives, activities and assessments. A course map is a powerful planning tool. Course map templates will be shared. This workshop is particularly useful for anyone planning to teach a new course, however ALL are welcome. Tuesday August 2, 10:30A Deep Reading and Digital Texts. Join Academic Support to discuss digital reading strategies drawn from some of the latest research in learning science and pedagogy and discuss ways to help your students deeply engage in digital-based texts in your courses. Tuesday August 2, 1:30-2:30P Harness the Power of Peer Review in Canvas. Canvas gives you the flexibility to automatically or manually assign peer reviews. The process is simple and strengthens students’ understanding of content. You can even have them evaluate other students using a rubric that you have set up in Canvas. Register using link in email.
Thursday August 4, 12:00-1:00P Teaching, Learning, and Course Revision at ˿Ƶ. Please join faculty colleagues for an open discussion about the significance of how and why we update courses over the summer, including but not limited to: face-to-face, hybrid, and online classrooms, as well as undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines. Come join this discussion about experiences revising courses within the context of liberal arts education to maximize student inquiry, critical thinking, and the applicability of the material. Friday August 5, 9:30-11:00A Instructional Technology Boot Camp. Have you just started with Moravian or need a refresher? Join this 90 minute session that will give you an overview of the instructional tools that are available at Moravian on the single sign-on dashboard (Okta), with an emphasis on the functionality in Canvas. This will give you the “lay of the land” and make you more comfortable with the “tech”.Register using link in email.

Monday August 8, 1:30-2:00P Canvas Rubrics for Easy Grading & Feedback. Rubrics are an effective way to communicate feedback to your students and can make grading a breeze. Tuesday August 9, 10:00A Teaching Circles 2023. An open discussion for faculty interested in a 2023 “Teaching Circles” Program. We will co-create a Moravian initiative whereby faculty from all disciplines may observe one anothers’ courses and consequently discuss pedagogy from a formative perspective using evidence-based practices. Wednesday August 10, 10:00-11:00A Flipgrid Overview. Learn how to get started with Flipgrid to empower your student's voices within the classroom. This Flipgrid session will focus on how to set groups, permissions, customization, topic creation, and other essential settings to leverage the flexibility of Flipgrid. Register using link in email.
Wednesday August 10, 1:30-2:30P Canvas - Managing Student Groups. Want to use Canvas groups, but not sure where to start? Come to this session to learn how to set up groups, create group assignments, manage, monitor and grade group assignments. Groups are also great for discussion boards! Register using link in email.
Friday August 12, 12:00-1:00P Digital Literacy and Revising our Courses for the Students of Tomorrow. This hands-on workshop will help faculty to consider digital literacy in the context of their teaching and learning. Camille Murphy will help faculty to: make .pdfs, fix their powerpoints, embed a video, improve the visual impact of their content, etc. Please feel free to bring specific questions and/or attend to hear more about the relationship between pedagogy and digital literacy. Wednesday September 7, 9:30-10:00A Creating a Template Assignment in Canvas. The Google Cloud Assignment tool in Canvas allows you to create a template assignment for students to easily submit. This is wonderful for worksheets, exit tickets and a host of other assignments.

Late September, Date TBA: Mental Health Advocate Training This workshop will help attendees learn how to recognize and respond to mental health issues. The training will provide guidance on talking to students about their mental health, supporting them in seeking help, and referring them to the support resources available on campus. The training will be available on Canvas for anyone who is interested. There will also be an in-person Q&A with the Counseling Center.

The media player is embedded throughout Canvas and makes it easy to send an audio or video communication. There's also an easy way to message "students who" via the gradebook. Let's take a look at the flexibility and advantages of each form of communication and how Canvas can make your job easier.
