2010 Young Alumni Achievement Award

Dustin Levy '01

The Young Alumni Achievement Award is presented to an alumna or alumnus who has achieved exceptional success in his or her profession and who has graduated within the past two to ten years. In recognition of his exceptional career in chemistry, the Alumni Association is honored to recognize Dustin Levy '01 with the 2010 Young Alumni Award.

After earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Moravian, Dustin was awarded his Ph.D.in physical chemistry from The University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 2005. He expects to receive his M.B.A. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2012.

During a postdoctoral research position at the National Institutes of Health and Research Council, he authored scientific articles for leading Chemistry journals and delivered technical presentations at national and international conferences.

Since 2007, Dustin has been employed in a management position at the Danbury, Connecticut headquarters of Smiths Detection, a leading technology provider of global security applications, where he assists customers with finding solutions for the chemical detection of illegal narcotics and homemade and improvised explosive devices as well as protection from chemical weapons of mass destruction.

His most recent achievement is the development of the very first bottled liquid scanner for the detection of explosives, now in use at some airport security checkpoints. Recently approved for use by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration, the bottled liquid scanner will eventually allow the TSA to reduce the liquid carry-on restrictions now in place for all aircraft passengers.

Dustin is married to the former Allison Harteveld '00. They are the parents of twin sons, Jack and Hayden who celebrated their first birthdays in June. The family currently resides in Connecticut.
